The Hippodrome Takes the LEED!
Venerable Midtown Building Receives the U.S. Green Building Council's Silver LEED Certification
(New York, NY, March 8th, 2011) - Edison Properties is proud to announce that The Hippodrome, which it has owned and operated since 1978, has just received the USGBC's Silver LEED Certification. LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance, environmentally-sensitive green buildings.
"We're thrilled," said Andy Gottesman, Principal of The Hippodrome. "Achieving this level of LEED certification is tough. We have a very dedicated management team who spent many hours and lots of effort to make The Hippodrome a model of sustainability. It's part of our renewed dedication to making all of our businesses as green as possible."
Over the last year, Edison Properties has initiated environmentally friendly programs throughout other businesses as well, including Manhattan Mini Storage and Edison ParkFast. Mayor Bloomberg was on hand for the unveiling of NYC's first public electric car charging station at Edison ParkFast's 9th Avenue and 35th street location, which also began offering safe, secure and affordable bicycle parking in September.
In addition to the upgraded LEED certification, The Hippodrome, located at 1120 Avenue of the Americas, has earned the EPA's prestigious ENERGY STAR in recognition that the building performs in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency.
